SWEET BRIAR, Va. — As part of Division III Week, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference united to raise money and awareness for Water Mission and the Walk for Water Initiative, with the conference raising over $1,500 for Water Mission and Sweet Briar leading the conference with over $400 raised.
Water Mission is a non-profit clean water charity that builds sustainable clean water solutions in developing countries and disaster areas.
Along with the ODAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the SAACs at each of the ODAC institutions, Sweet Briar put on events throughout DIII Week with the hope to raise money for the Water Mission.
"I am so pleased with SAAC and the Sweet Briar community for collaborating and supporting such a great cause," said Sweet Briar SAAC President, Claire Zak. "I am so thankful to those who helped make the event a success in such a short timeframe. It is a great feeling to know that our efforts will provide clean drinking water for those who need it.
Sweet Briar's marquee fundraising event during DIII Week was "Pie the Professor", which featured an auction-style event, with the prize for the winner being an opportunity to pie a professor, coach or administrator.
"It was a lot of work in such a short amount of time to make the event possible, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well the event turned out," said Sweet Briar soccer student-athlete Courtney Nelson. "It was great to see members of the Sweet Briar community supporting such a meaningful cause with a monetary donation or by volunteering to be pied."
