FOREST, Va. --- Defender Eve Mergenthaler (Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) has been named to the 2012 ALL-ODAC Field Hockey Team. Mergenthaler was named to the Second Team for her play for the Vixens and was among six first-year players conference-wide to be selected to the team.
Mergenthaler picked up the honor after finishing the season with the highest defensive saves per game average (.23%) in the conference. Her stellar play this year also included many blocked shots, a statistic not officially kept, but critical to team defense.
Head Coach Jess Lamina noted, "Having Eve in our backfield this year made a huge difference for us. She stepped up time and time again, stopping would be attackers from creating sure scoring opportunities." She expanded, "We talk a lot about getting in the zone and doing whatever it takes for your team, and Eve exemplifies that attitude. There were many games where Eve dove in front of a player to make sure she couldn't get a shot. She always gives her best and never settles. We are really looking forward to fine tuning Eve's skills this off season and will look to her to help lead the defense with Addie Hedge next season."
