Softball Opens Home Slate Against SVU

SWEET BRIAR, Va.- The Sweet Briar College softball team opened the home chapter of its 2017 season with a doubleheader against non-conference opponent, Southern Virginia University. The Knights swept the series on Thursday afternoon.

Game One

The Vixens struggled to find their bats amongst the cold and windy weather, but the Knights did not on their way to a 12-0 victory.

SBC had an opportunity to get on the board in bottom of the first inning when Erica Orr walked and then stole second base. Chelsea McKinney then walked to put runners on first and second with one out, but the next two batters were unable to advance the runners and left them stranded.

SVU's Megan Harmon shutdown Sweet Briar for the remainder of the game, striking out nine batters.

Game Two

After allowing a run in the top half of the first inning, the Vixens were able to respond, propelled by a lead-off Amanda Terry single. The senior later advance to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single to right field by classmate Kayla Dooms

The Vixens had a few more opportunities to get on the board in game two, but they were unable to capitalize on their chances.

Terry led Sweet Briar, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

The Vixens will be out of action until next Saturday, March 25, when they host conference foe Bridgewater. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
