Sweet Briar edges Hollins in match play

AMHERST, Va. — The Sweet Briar golf team earned its first ever dual win on Saturday at Poplar Grove Golf Club with a 3-2 match play victory over Hollins thanks to senior Emily Hawk clinching victory in the fifth match.

Hollins opened the day with a 5 and 4 victory from Michelle DuCom, but senior Marina Biel (Palmyra, Va.) pulled one back for the Vixens winning 3 and 2 over Pranika Kar on the 16th hole.

Ya Gao returned the lead to Hollins with a 4 and 2 victory.

First-year Kendall Nicely (Glen Allen, Va.) tied the match at 2-2 when she clinched her match 9 and 8 after 10 holes.

The final decision came down to Hawk (Goochland, Va.) and LC Hill, but Hawk ended the match early with an 8 and 7 victory after 11 holes played.
