The Sweet Briar lacrosse team opened the 2018 campaign on Saturday with an 18-2 loss to Ferrum College in a game held at Babcock Field. The Vixens got an early start, with opening draw moved to 11 a.m due to inclement weather.
Key Sweet Briar Players:
Elizabeth Phaup: The senior captain scored both of the Sweet Briar goals. Phaup also won three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Stepping up on both sides of the field, Phaup showed her leadership and versatility.
A'Shawnta Sherman: The goalkeeper faced 27 shots, making nine saves. Sherman also contributed an interception to the Vixen cause.
Kierstan Mullins: Starting as a low defender for the first time in her career, Mullins stood out as a key communicator while also starting the transition game for the Vixens on several occasions.
Victoria Lawson: The sophomore displayed speed in transition and showed ferocious spirit during several 1 v 1 battles.
Key Ferrum Players:
Kaitlyn Harley: The sophomore attack scored seven goals on 14 shots.

Sweet Briar returns to action on March 2 when Davis & Elkins College visits Babcock Field. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
