Vixen Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Vixen Soccer has announced the 2012 playing schedule.   The slate features a balance of seven home and away contests, including two early season non-conference matchups.  On Friday, August 31 Sweet Briar travels to North Carolina for an afternoon contest with Peace College.  SBC kicked off last season with a win against the Pacers and the Vixens will look to repeat the feat.

A week later fellow women's college, Bryn Mawr visit for the Saturday, September 8 afternoon tilt.  Old Dominion Athletic Conference league play begins on the road at Emory & Henry on Wednesday, September 12.  SBC returns to Babcock Field the following Saturday to host 2011 ODAC Champion Lynchburg College before hitting the road for contests with Randolph and Shenandoah.

The 2012 season marks the first year of ODAC competition for SU.  Prior to joining the conference, the Hornets were members of USA South.  September and October begin and end with home mid-week matinees.  The Eastern Mennonite Royals visit on Wednesday, September 26 and a week later the Vixens host the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College.  Both games are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.

After traveling to Ashland, Va. for a game with Randolph-Macon, the Vixens play three of their final five contests at home.  Bridgewater visits on Wednesday, October 10 and then the Vixens pack up and travel west for a date with Hollins on Saturday, October 13.  Home events against Roanoke and Guilford and an away match at Washington and Lee round out the regular season playing schedule.

Head SBC soccer coach Kevin Fabulich shared his thoughts on the upcoming season.  "2012 will be an exciting year for us.  With two large classes recently graduated and a large incoming class, we have a lot of youth to build with and find out what we will be like as a new unit."

Fabulich continued, "as part of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, our schedule is always rigorous and the addition of Shenandoah makes our schedule even stronger.  I am excited about the opportunities we have with the new group of players and can't wait to get our first practice under way on August 19th!"
