SBC Soccer Battles Wesleyan College

For the second day in a row, the Sweet Briar College soccer team was in action and not only battling an opposing team, but also the weather. With temperatures in the 60's and drizzling rain throughout the contest, visiting Wesleyan College made the most of the conditions and won the match, 7-0.

The Vixen defense was busy all afternoon as the Wolves were on the offensive, registering 43 shots, with 30 on goal. SBC's backline was able to stay strong and draw the Wolves offside five times throughout the match. Junior Caroline Thomas played the first 64 minute of the match in goal, allowing five goals and making 14 saves. First-year Sam Holton played the final 26 minutes between the pipes, registering nine saves and allowing two goals in her first collegiate minutes.

Thomas was shown a yellow card in the 23rd minute when she was pulled off her line and misjudged the charging attack of Wesleyan's Fetlework Blitch. On the ensuing penalty shot, Thomas was able to get a hand on Blitch's shot, but not enough to keep the ball from finding the back of the net.

Sweet Briar will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 6 when Regent University comes to town for a 4 p.m. match.
