LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Sweet Briar swimming team opened their competition season on Friday finishing fifth at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Relay Meet. The meet, held on the campus of Washington & Lee University, was a chance for Head Coach Jason Gallaher to see his younger swimmers compete before the dual meet schedule begins.
The Vixens were bolstered by a strong performance in the 500 yard freesyle relay. The team of Kat Jorgensen-Muga (Bellingham, Wa. / Bellingham), Laure Herzog (Alexandria, Va. / Bishop Ireton), Katlyn Fleming (Enfield, Conn. / Enrico Fermi) and Rosie Purvis (Montgomery City, Mo. / Homeschooled) finished second in that race, missing out on the top spot by .02 seconds. The 100 yard dolphin kick relay team of Herzog, Quinn Griswold (Alpine, N.Y. / Odessa-Montour), Ronni Schoenherr (Hudson, Wisc. / Hudson), and Caroline Shepard (Gainesville, Va. / Battlefield) also raced well for Sweet Briar. They finished in fourth place in their competition.
The Vixens will travel to Fairmont, W. Va. on Friday, October 26 to take part in the Fairmont State Invitational. Competition will begin at 5p.m. on Friday and day two of the Invitational will begin at noon on Saturday.
