SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- First-year swimmer Lydia Fleck (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) was victorious in two out of the three individual races in which she competed on Wednesday evening. Her performance was not enough for the Vixens, as they fell to the Eagles of Bridgewater by a score of 128-79.
Fleck took a seven second win in the 800m Freestyle. Her time of 10:24.51 was almost four seconds faster than her previous best 800m time. Later in the meet, Fleck swam an outstanding race in the 400m Freestyle. She was able to touch 12 seconds faster than her closest competitor, finishing at 5:03.83.
Senior Dani Humphrey (Vienna, Va./James Madison) contributed her best time of the year in the 50m Freestyle. Humphrey placed second in that race with a time of 29.06. A pair of sophomores were also able to collect second place finishes for the Vixens. Rosie Purvis (Montgomery City, Mo./Homeschooled) finished second in the 200m Freestyle, while classmate Ronni Schoenherr (Hudson, Wisc./Hudson) placed second in the 100m Freestyle for the Vixens.
Sweet Briar Head Coach Jason Gallaher shared, "We swam a great team tonight, and I think that we had some great races throughout many of the heats. Many of our swimmers are continuing to improve upon previous performances, and that's a goal for us as we continue through the season."
Sweet Briar is off until Dec 1 when they will take on Hollins in a meet beginning at 1 p.m. at Prothro Natatorium.
