SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- The Sweet Briar Swimming team touched the wall first in 12 of 14 races on Saturday afternoon and cruised to victory over the team from Hollins University at Prothro Natatorium.
Senior Dani Humphrey (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) led the way for the Vixens on a day that she was honored for her career achievements at Sweet Briar. Humphrey swam the butterfly leg of the 200m Medley Relay, teaming with Ronni Schoenherr (Hudson, Wisc. / Hudson), Marian Huber (Newport News, Va. / Menchville) and Lydia Fleck (Poquoson, Va. / Poquoson) to secure the first win of the day for the Vixens. Later, Humphrey sprinted to a first-place finish in the 50m Freestyle, winning with a time of :29.76 and won the 100m Butterfly in 1:15.55. In the last race of the day, Humphrey was a member of the 200m Freestyle Relay that touched first in 2:04.93.
Sweet Briar received strong performances from several Vixen Swimmers. Fleck won her two individual events, the 200m and 400m Freestyle races. Huber also touched first in two of her races, the 200m Breaststroke and the 400m Individual Medley. Junior Lauré Herzog (Alexandria, Va. / Bishop Ireton) added a victory in the 100m Backstroke, while sophomore Rosie Purvis (Montgomery City, Mo. / Homeschooled) swam a career best 11:03.80 in the 800m Freestyle to win that event. Additionally, first year Quinn Griswold (Alpine, N.Y. / Odessa-Montour) collected her first individual event victory at the collegiate level, finishing the 200m Backstroke in 2:46.10.
Head Coach Jason Gallaher shared, "We had a really good meet. We swam great as a team, and this was a great way for Dani Humphrey to go out in the last home meet of her Sweet Briar swimming career. We will get back to work on Monday and prepare for our last meet of this semester."
Sweet Briar will close out their semester competition on Saturday, December 8 when they travel to Ferrum College to take on Ferrum and King College in a double dual meet.
