GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Sweet Briar swimming team opened up competition at the 2013 ODAC Championship Meet on Friday evening. After five events, the Vixens sit in seventh place, just nine points behind Notre Dame of Maryland University for sixth.
The evening began with a sixth place finish by the SBC 200y Freestyle Relay team. Dani Humphrey (Vienna, Va./James Madison), Rosie Purvis (Montgomery City, Mo./Homeschooled), Lydia Fleck (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) and Ronni Schoenherr (Hudson, Wisc./Hudson) finished with a time 1:45.39 to get the Vixens Championship Weekend underway. Humphrey also swam in the B Final of the 50y Freestyle, before swimming the anchor leg of the 400y Medley Relay with teammates Schoenherr, Marian Huber (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and Vida McCahey (Novato, Calif./Novato) That team finished up the racing for the night with a seventh place finish in the final.
Head Coach Jason Gallaher knows that a big weekend lies ahead for the Sweet Briar swimmers. "We are looking forward to the next couple days of racing, said Gallaher. We had our least amount of swims on Friday, so Saturday and Sunday will be busier with several swimmers doubling up in races. Most of our best races are ahead of us, so we're excited to compete."
Prelims for Saturday's session begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow, with the Finals scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. The ODAC will again be providing live updating results for both the Prelims and Finals. Full meet results can also be found at odaconline.
