Donna Hodgert Returns to Sweet Briar Swimming
SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar College Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education Kelly Morrison has announced the appointment of Donna Hodgert as the next head swimming coach.
Coach Hodgert stated, "After meeting with the team and seeing their enthusiasm for getting work done both in the pool and the weight room, I am excited to have this opportunity to work with athletes who strive for excellence and want to achieve it."
Hodgert is well-known in the Sweet Briar and Vixen Athletics community. She is a SBC alumna (class of '89) and former Vixen swim team member. During her time on the swim team, Hodgert commented, "The opportunity to return to a program and a school that gave so much to me as a student/athlete is a once-in-a-lifetime reward."
Hodgert served as the Randolph College head swim coach from 1997-2008, and coached her swimmers to among the top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Hodgert was named the ODAC Coach of the Year in 2004. For the past six years, Coach Hodgert has worked as the athletic director, physical education teacher and cross-country coach at James River Day school in Lynchburg, Va.
Sweet Briar Athletic Director Morrison commented, "Coach Hodgert is no stranger to Prothro Natatorium - her records are still on the score board." At SBC, Hodgert still holds the 200M Butterfly and the 400M Individual Medley records. Morrison also added, "I am very excited that Donna has accepted the position to be our next swim coach. Donna's coaching experience and understanding of all that is special about Sweet Briar will be a winning combination. We are thrilled to have her join our coaching staff.
