Sweet Briar Closes Out Dual Meet Season

The Sweet Briar College swim team wrapped up its dual meet season on Wednesday evening, hosting ODAC-rival Roanoke at Prothro Natatorium.  The Vixens fell to the Maroons 127-57.

First-year Sarah Ahson was involved in the most exciting finish of the night.  Ahson and Roanoke's Tessa Kenny were neck and neck coming to the wall during the 50m freestyle.   Kenney (31.58) just edged Ahson (31.62) in the dramatic finish.  Fellow first-year Theresa Carriveau had a solid evening in the pool.  She claimed second place in the 800m freestyle (11:39.72) and third in the 400m IM (6:30.14).

The Sweet Briar seniors were also strong contributors to the Vixen cause.  Claire Zak finished with a second place finish in the 100m breaststroke (1:39.74) and a third place touch in the 800m freestyle (12:45.34).  Sarah Cahoone added a second place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:24.84).

"The team looked strong tonight," commented Coach Donna Hodgert.  "They have a lot of enthusiasm as we head into the last week of training before the championship.  I was happy to hear them talking about the small things that they will do to get a little faster for their final performances."

Sweet Briar will be focused on their final preparations for the ODAC Championships to be held February 9-11 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
