FOREST, Va. --- Sweet Briar College is tabbed 12th in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Tennis preseason poll as released today by the conference office. Vixen Tennis, guided by fifth year head coach Teresa Boylan, boasts a 14-woman roster for the spring 2013 playing schedule.
Boylan's squad features a balance of first-years and returning players with senior Sarah Manter (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) acting as captain for the second year in a row. Joining Manter in the line up are sophomores Rachel Byrd (Hartfield, Va./Mathews), Allie Raifsnider (Concord, N.C./Jay M. Robinson) and Courtney Todd (Sterling, Va. / Dominion) who look to improve upon their first-year success. Vixen Tennis also welcomes back junior Emma Merritt-Cuneo. The Pacifica, Calif. native spent the 2012-fall semester studying abroad in Germany.
Boylan also enjoys a total of five seniors on her roster. Alongside Manter are classmates Glory Bowman (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry), Nicole Lee (Seattle, Wash.), Lauren Morgan (Lexington, S.C. / Lexington) and Yuliya Rigg (Sweet Briar, Va. / Amherst).
Coach Boylan shares, "This team is building on last year's effort and the returning players know what to expect and have been working hard at practice. The upper class women inspire the new players in practice and conditioning. Vixen Tennis is already a pretty cohesive team and I look forward to seeing that strengthen even more through the season."
Boylan continues, "I am really looking forward to beginning our competitions. It is likely that we will be underestimated, but I think we'll be competitive with a lot of the teams in our conference."
