Salve Slips Past Sweet Tennis
Hilton Head Island, S.C. --- Sweet Briar College opened spring break competition at the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Spring TennisFest with a match against Salve Regina (Newport, R.I.) on Monday, March 11.
SBC nearly collected a point on court three doubles, but entered singles competition down 3-0 against the Seahawks. Sarah Manter (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) led the comeback on court one when she picked up a win over Salve's Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, Mass. / Taunton) 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (12-10). Glory Bowman (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) then knocked off Elizabeth Liguori (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-1) to pull the Vixen side with in a point (3-2).
SBC picked up wins on courts five and six from Rachel Byrd (Hartfield, Va/Mathews) and Yuliya Rigg (Sweet Briar, Va./Amherst) respectively, but the total was not enough as SRU slipped past Sweet Briar 5-4.
Vixen Tennis returns to PTR Spring TennisFest action on Thursday, March 14 when the team plays Olivet College (Olivet, Mich.)
