Sweet Tennis Battles With Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va.- The Sweet Briar College tennis team played its second Old Dominion Athletic Conference match of the young 2017 season with a Thursday afternoon visit to Randolph-Macon College. The host Yellow Jackets lived up to their No. 17 ITA Regional Ranking with a 9-0 victory.

Despite the overall margin of victory, the young Sweet Briar squad put together some solid matches across the courts. Both pairings of AJ Lukanuski and Gina Rutledge on court one and Samantha Yew and Emily Wandling on court two lost their respective matches, 4-8.

In singles play, Yew dropped a competitive first set on court four, 3-6, before dropping the second frame, 1-6. On court five, senior Des'rae Davis won her first set, 6-2, before dropping the second, 3-6, and then losing the tiebreaker. First-year Lexi Culley held her own in her court six loss, 2-6, 4-6.

The Vixens will now prepare for next week's spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C. They have matches schedule against Ohio Northern (March 6), conference foe Bridgewater (March 8), and Drew (March 9). SBC won't return to its home courts at Amherst Middle School until next month, when they face local ODAC rival Randolph on Friday, April 7.
