SBC Tennis Wraps Up Spring Break Trip Against Drew

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Sweet Briar College tennis team concluded its annual spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C. with a matchup against Drew University. The two sides played close matches across all courts, but it was the Rangers that emerged victorious, 5-4.

In doubles play, the duo of Samantha Yew and Emily Wandling continued playing strong tennis and took down the duo of Jessica Cheng and Maria Navas Espinal, 8-3. The junior and first-year pairing marked their fourth win together with the victory on court two. 

AJ Lukanuski and Gina Rutledge played strong tennis on court one, but couldn't overcome the pairing of Ashley Camel and Ty Ty Witten, losing 5-8.

Yew and Wandling carried their strong play over into singles play, where they each picked up a match victory for SBC. Wandling was playing on court three and cruised pass Cheng, 6-2, 6-1. Wandling is now 5-2 on the season in singles play.

Yew also picked up her fifth singles victory by downing Cristina Ricco on court four. The Bronx native won a competitive match, 6-3, 6-4.

First-year Lexi Culley won her second match of the season with a great outing on court six. Culley took down Xylia Bruff, 6-3, 6-2. 

The Vixens will return to action on Wednesday, March 15 when they travel to Ferrum College for a match scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
