Thayer Field
Thayer Field is home to the Vixens' field hockey and lacrosse programs. The facility features state-of-the-art Poligras Platinum CoolPlus by Astroturf complete with eight water cannons creating an outstanding playing surface for Vixen Field Hockey. In line with Sweet Briar's commitment to sustainability, Thayer Field includes an innovative water reclamation system, allowing a dramatic reduction in water use. The facility also boasts Musco LED lighting to allow games and practices to be scheduled at any time throughout the day. Additionally, a new digital scoreboard with shot clocks is perched at the end of the field to allow spectators to easily keep track of the score, time remaining, as well as player penalties.
Dedicated on October 29, 2022 in honor of Mildred "Bee" Newman Thayer '61, Thayer Field is now only the second water-based turf home facility the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The field is also certified by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) as a part of the FIH Quality Programme for Hockey Turf.
