Box Score The Vixen soccer team grabbed their first of the season victory
yesterday against the Pacers of Peace College in Cary, N.C.
The Sweet Briar College team won with a score of 7-0, starting
their season off with a 1-0 record.
As soon as the Vixens stepped onto the field to face the Pacers,
the competition was fierce. The team pushed hard against the
opposing defense, and in the 26th minute, that pressure paid
off. Forward Sierra
Palmieri's ('12/Ft. Collins, Colo.) shot from distance
went neatly into the top right corner of the net. Goal
scored.
From there, the intensity picked up. Two goals were shot and
scored into the goal by sophomore April Joyner
(Portsmouth, Va.) with assists by Palmieri in the 34th
and 40th minute. The Vixens were up 3-0 at the end of the first
half.
Working into the second half, the Vixens got the ball back into
the Pacer's goal, thanks to an impressive cross-in by Sierra
Palmieri that was secured by senior Kat
Alexander (Asheville, N.C.). Six minutes later Caitlin
Swauger ( '13/Clemmons, N.C.) scored with an assist from
first-year Rachel Buechler, soon followed by Sierra and
assisted by Emily Davies
('11/Waynesboro, Va.) in the 72nd minute, and then
Emily assisted by Rachel Buechler in the 87th minute. The flurry of
action and teamwork is what kept the momentum going for the
Vixens.
According to head coach Kevin Fabulich, " the team was pleased
with the game and is looking forward to the coming tournament
at Bryn Mawr, Pa." Go Vixens!
