First-Year Keeper Records Shutout Half Against #11 Lynchburg

Box Score

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Although the Vixens kept 11th ranked Lynchburg College off the board in the second half, Sweet Briar dropped its 2012 home conference opener.  SBC's first-year keeper Katherine Tillson turned away 14 of 18 shots on the game.  The rookie recorded nine stops after intermission to preserve the second half shutout.

Lynchburg struck early when Morgan Singer (Yorktown, VA / Grafton) converted a header off an assist from Nikki Rhodes (Stephens City, VA / Sherando) at the 2:17 mark.  En route to the win, Hornet Angela Bosco (Huntington Station, NY / Huntington) added a pair of goals and teammate Jade Woll (Woodbridge, VA / Woodbridge) netted a goal just before half time.

Despite enjoying advantages in both corner kicks (10) and shots (17), Lynchburg could not find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes.

Lynchburg miscues in the final third combined with Tillson's performance in goal produced the 4-0 result in favor of the visitors.  Other Vixen highlights include ninety minutes of play from sophomore Olivia Fagan (Vienna, Va. / International Community School Addis Ababa).  Fagan returns to the line up as a regular after a yearlong hiatus due to injury.

Sweet Briar returns to action on Tuesday, September 18.  The Vixens travel the short distance to Lynchburg for a match up with rival Randolph College.  Game time is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff under the lights at WildCat Stadium.
