Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Rookie striker Lynn Lunde (Dallas, Tex./Creekview) tallied a career-first goal for Sweet Briar in Wednesday's 1-1 double-overtime tie with Eastern Mennonite. The visiting Royals struck first in the opening minute of play when EMU forward Elisa Ott (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) popped a looper from 30 yards out. The shot attempt just did drop behind Vixen keeper Katherine Tillson '16 (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee). Ten minutes later Lunde finished the equalizer for SBC.
Marissa McCord '15 (Asheville, N.C./T.C. Roberson) hit Lunde with a cross from left center. Lunde collected the pass and dribbled inside the 18-yard box before firing a shot that beat stand-in keeper Kimmy Beck (Lynchburg, Va./Temple Christian).
Although the teams would go on to fight for nearly 100 more minutes, the contest ended at one goal apiece. One the day, the Vixen team held a slight advantage in shots (17) and corner kicks (10), but could not come up with a game winning goal.
Both teams created a number of scoring opportunities through the contest. Lunde and McCord each rattled off several attempts, the most dangerous coming from McCord in the first overtime period when Ali Lifka (Arden, N.C./T.C Roberson) lofted a free kick and the ensuing McCord header narrowly missed the target. The Royals also put up several serious chances. EMU's Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) nearly hit the mark in the 105th minute off combination play in the box.
For the Vixens, Tillson recorded seven saves on eight shots faced over 110 minutes of play in goal.
With the tie, the Vixen conference record holds steady at 0-4-1. Sweet Briar returns to action next Wednesday. On October 3, the Vixens host ODAC front-runner Virginia Wesleyan College. The match is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff at Babcock Field.
