Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Sweet Briar College entered Saturday's contest at Trinity University with sights set on victory. Helped by a first half scoring spree that put six Vixens in the scoring column, Sweet Briar knocked off the host Tigers by the score of 10-1.
First-year striker Grayson Murphy (Salt Lake City, Utah/West) paced the attack with a hat trick and added an assist for good measure. Teammates Ashley Federico (Milford, N.H./Milford) and Chelsea Daniels (Jacksonville, Fla./Pedro Menendez) tossed in two scores to round out the multi-goal effort while Kaila Beale (Glen Allen, Va. J.R. Tucker), Kayla Kishbaugh (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and Emily Welch (Pamplin, Va./ Appomattox) each collected a point.
Starting keeper Katie Tillson (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) passed a clean sheet to Kat Day (Clifton Forge, Va./James River) who took over keeper duties in the second. Just under the 15 minute mark, Trinity's Karen Ceullar prevented the shutout with the Tiger's only goal.
Sweet Briar held the advantage across the board. On the day the Vixens outshot the Tigers 18-5 and created six corners to none.
Head Vixen Soccer Coach Kevin Fabulich commented, "It was good to get our first win of the season on the road. The team put forth great effort and we look forward to continuing our progress next weekend on our home field."
With the win, Sweet Briar improves to 1-0-1 on the season. Trinity drops to 0-2. On Saturday, September 14, SBC returns to Babcock Field for a non-conference match with Christendom. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
