Box Score The Yellow Jackets scored twice in under two minutes in the first half, as Randolph-Macon took a 4-0 decision over Sweet Briar in a crucial ODAC soccer showdown.
A win would have kept Sweet Briar in the top-8 playoff places with three more regular season games remaining. Instead Randolph-Macon improved to 5-4, two games ahead of the Vixens with the tiebreaker in hand.
Elsewhere in the conference, Eastern Mennonite (who also has head-to-head tiebreaker over SBC) defeated Guilford 3-1 to move a game ahead of the ninth-place Vixens.
There was little in the way of scoring chances in the opening 20 minutes (one Sweet Briar corner kick by Stephanie Scott and a few RMC shots off-target).
The Yellow Jackets opened up in the scoring in the 22nd minute, with Sam King finishing off Meghan O'Neal pass.
Randolph-Macon then added a crushing second goal on their next opportunity, as Jen LaBarge finished off the attack for a 2-0 scoreline.
Sophomore Des'rae Davis recorded the Vixens' two shots in the game, including an attempt that was blocked early in the second half.
LaBarge recorded her second goal of the game in the 58th minute to stretch Randolph-Macon's lead to 3-0.
RMC finished off the scoring with Ashleigh Smith's goal in the 76th minute.
Junior Kat Day made three saves in her second game filling in as an replacement goalkeeper for classmate Katie Tillson.
Sweet Briar falls to 6-6, 3-5 and will host #3 Lynchburg College on Tuesday afternoon.
