Vixens Cap Successful Season With Win at Randolph

Box Score

The Sweet Briar soccer team defeated Randolph 1-0 in its season finale on Wednesday, setting virtually every team winning mark in the process.

The Vixens finish 2014 at 7-8, 4-8, which equals their previous highest win total and is a new high for conference victories. SBC's winning percentage of .467 is also a new team mark, and the Vixens' fifth shutout equals their previous best for a season.

Sophomore Kayla Kishbaugh scored the game-winner in the 66th minute, running onto a long ball from senior Kelsey Barta. Randolph's Quinn-Lynn Bates came out but Kishbaugh got there first, slipping it under the goalkeeper.

Randolph's Alissa Gembech looped a dangerous shot in the final two minutes but Sweet Briar goalie Kat Day was able to tip it off the crossbar and then hold on.

Day finished with eight saves, completing an impressive three-game stretch in which she saved 80.5% of the shots she faced and totaled 33 stops.

The first half ended 0-0, the fourth time this year Sweet Briar has shut out an ODAC opponent in the opening period.

The Vixens finish the season tied for eighth place in the ODAC, but Eastern Mennonite earns the final league playoff spot on head-to-head thanks to a 4-1 win at Sweet Briar early this month.
