WINCHESTER, Va.- The Sweet Briar College soccer team paid a visit to conference-leading Shenandoah University on Friday evening. The Hornets were held in check for the first half, before pulling away with a 6-0 victory.

Shenandoah boasts the top-scoring offense in the ODAC and Head Coach Amy Dahlin felt that her Vixens did a more than commendable job in the defense half.

"Everyone worked their tails off out there," said Dahlin. "Kayla Kishbaugh had a lot of big defensive moments, but Leyte McNealus, Lacey Tucker, and Cassidy Bodkin all contributed with strong defensive efforts."

Shenandoah's Emily Yergin has been a game-changer for the Hornets all season. The first-year leads the conference and ranks second in the nation with 21 goals. Senior Des'rae Davis, who has played all over the field for the Vixens this season, was tasked with marking Yergin and limited her to just two shots and one assist on the evening. The Vixens join Lynchburg as the only ODAC schools to hold Yergin scoreless so far this season.

Sophomore Caroline Thomas played a tough game in goal for the Vixens, notching 11 saves. Thomas has now made 138 saves this season.

The Vixens have two games remaining in 2016 and will play their final road game on Wednesday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Norfolk to take on Virginia Wesleyan. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Sweet Briar's season will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 29 for Senior Day, when they host Hollins University. Opening kick is scheduled for 12 p.m., with Senior Day festivities taking place before opening kick.
