Soccer Hangs Tough With Visiting Maroons

Box Score

SWEET BRIAR, Va.- The Sweet Briar College soccer team played its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference home game on Tuesday afternoon when Roanoke College paid a visit to Babcock Field. The Vixens fought hard all game but Roanoke used its depth as an advantage and pulled away late for a 7-0 victory.

The Maroons played 27 different girls during the match, compared to just 14 for Sweet Briar. After being held to just two first-half goals, Roanoke used its depth and fresh legs to wear out the Vixens and net four goals in the final 20 minutes.

Junior goalkeeper Caroline Thomas made 25 saves in an outstanding performance that saw her making diving saves and tips over the crossbar. The 25 saves marks a single-game career best for Thomas.

Alexa Dahlin had a solid game distributing through balls out of the midfield and springing Jona Cumani and Catherine Ford forward toward the goal.

The Vixens will hit the road this weekend and take on Emory & Henry College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
