Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa.- After opening the season with three home matches in a week's time, the Sweet Briar College soccer team packed up and headed on the road to face fellow women's college, Cedar Crest College. The Falcons offense has been high-flying all season and it was on display Saturday as the home team won 4-0.
Entering the match, Cedar Crest had scored 19 goals in five games to start the season. So when her defense held the Falcons to just one goal in the first half, Head Coach Amy Dahlin was happy with her backlines performance. "Our back four of Lacey Tucker, Caylin Newman, Elizabeth Phaup and Melissa Wert really anchored our play today and allowed us to play out of the back."
Dahlin was equally impressed with the play of her first-year goalkeeper Sam Holton, who in her second career start made 10 saves to keep SBC in the game for as long as she could.
Leading the Vixens attack from the back was senior midfielder Alexa Dahin who collected and distributed the ball well. The Lynchburg, Va. native also battled for and won a lot of 50/50 balls.
First-year Lera Cordner returned to the lineup on Saturday afternoon and led the SBC attack with a shot on goal.
Sweet soccer will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23 when they return to the familiar turf of Babcock Field and host Trinity University of Washington at 1 p.m. The next day, they'll wrap up the Founders' Day weekend activities by hosting their wildly popular alumnae game. The fun will get underway at 1:30 p.m. and all are encouraged to register for the event here: https://sweetbriarcollege.wufoo.com/forms/z1qicqig166p2v9/
