SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Sophomore Lily Peterson won her point on the flat, as the Vixens were topped 9-1 at the Harriet Howell Riding Riding Center on Friday morning by the No. 6 University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
Senior Emily Schlosberg (Fairfax, Va.) ws the top scorer for the Vixens in either event, recording an 83 over fences, while riding Dorado. Peterson (Ashland, Va.) scored an 82 on Ray, but Schlosberg and Peterson ran into two of the Gamecocks' top scorers as Lizzie Van Der Walde scored 87 against Peterson and Tyler Petrie notched 85 against Schlosberg.
Sophomore Katie Balding (Williamsburg, Va.) posted a 74 on Dimitri, while first-year Charlotte Hadley (Tiverton, R.I.) scored 72 on Divo and first-year Maggie Fraley (White Haven, Pa.) scored 68 on Teddy.
Peterson was the lone Vixen to earn a team point, as she edged Van Der Walde 66-62 on the flat riding Mulligan.
Balding tallied a 73 on Navarre, while Hadley notched a 68 on Emmett. Riding Jackson, Fraley scored a 56 and Schlosberg recorded a 53 on Mo'Bay.
The Gamecocks picked up the 9-1 overall win, with an 804-695 advantage in raw score.
Sweet Briar will return to NCEA action in February with a home meet against No. 5 TCU on February 8, 2019.
