Ahson, Kear earn three wins each as Vixens edged by Marlins

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Sophomores Sarah Ahson and Dharma Kear won three individual races each, as Sweet Briar was edged 111-90 by Virginia Wesleyan at the Jane P. Batten Student Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Vixens hit the pool for the first time on the day in the 1000-yard freestyle as Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) won the race with a career-best time of 13:47.96.

First-year Natalie Waldo (Woodstock, Ga.) won the 200-yard freestyle with a career-best 2:24.54, while first-year Helen McCall was fourth at 3:14.94 and first-year Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) was fifth with a career-best time of 3:28.69.

A season-best time of 1:08.42 in the 100-yard backstroke earned Ahson (Manassas, Va.) a first-place finish, while first-year Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) touched the wall third with a career-best mark of 1:21.88.

Kear earned first-place points in the 200-yard butterfly, touching at 2:55.04.

Ahson won her second race of the day out touching five other swimmers with a time of 29.78. McCall finished fifth with a career-best time of 37.89, while Shaw touched sixth at 40.68.

Jones and McCall recorded career-best marks in the 100-yard freestyle, as Jones finished second at 1:13.11 and McCall touched third with a time of 1:26.24.

Ahson's third win was in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:22.76, while Waldo touched second with a career-best 6:36.61. Jones rounded out the Vixens' 500-freestyle lineup with a 7:29.75.

Kear and Waldo finished first and second, respectively in the 400-yard individual medley with Kear posting a time of 5:57.73 and Waldo's career-best time of 6:02.32 rounding out the heat.

The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relay, which saw the Vixens' squad of McCall, Kear, Waldo and Ahson finish .04 seconds behind the Marlins in second with a time of 2:07.84.

The Vixens wrap-up the first half of the 2018-19 season at home on Saturday, December 1, at 1:30 p.m. against William Peace.
