SWEET BRIAR, Va.  — The Sweet Briar swim team picked up an 89-73 dual victory over Guilford at the Prothro Natatorium on Friday evening, led by four individual victories from Sweet Briar swimmers. 

The Vixens opened the meet with a victory in the 200-medley relay, as sophomore Sarah Ahson (Manassas, Va.), sophomore Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.), first-year Natalie Waldo (Woodstock, Ga.) and first-year Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) out touched Guilford's relay with a time of 2:34.52.

The 800-freestyle saw Jones cruise to victory with a time of 13:11.10. First-year Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) swam to a second-place finish in the 200-freestyle, followed by a second-place finish from senior Caroline Thomas (Appomattox, Va.) in the 50-freestyle. First-year Helen McCall finished fourth in the 50-freestyle.

Kear posted an impressive mark in in her 200-individual medley victory, swimming a career-best time of 3:01.90 in the event.

Waldo's 1:29.26 was good for second in the 100-butterfly. The 100-freestyle ended with Thomas second at 1:30.75 and McCall third at 1:40.18.

Ahson recorded a dominant result in the 100-backstroke, finishing over 14 seconds ahead of the second finisher with a time of 1:18.62. Shaw finished third at 2:05.53.

Waldo's 6:00.73 in the 400-freestyle was good for a top finish, while Jones' 6:19.27 was a career-best in the event.

Kear and Entrican finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-breaststroke, with Kear finishing at 1:41.63 and Entrican touching the wall at 1:55.19.

The 200-freestyle relay saw Sweet Briar win the single heat with a time of 2:38.35.

The dual-meet victory was the first of head coach Jerry Diamond's career.

Sweet Briar heads to Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday for a 2 p.m. meet in Virginia Beach.
