CARY, N.C. — The Sweet Briar swim team won six events and cruised to a 113-68 win over host William Peace and a 133-45 victory over Salem at the Triangle Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The event got underway with Sweet Briar (2-0) winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:17.29. The Vixens' relay featured first-year Anne Rucker (Midlothian, Va.), sophomore Lizzie Martin (Dothan, Ala.), first-year Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Theresa Carriveau (West Chicago, Ill.).
The 1000-yard freestyle featured a one-two finish for the Vixens, as junior Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) won the event with a time of 13:37.33. Touching the wall second, was junior Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) at 15:03.91.
First-year Leilani Williams (Amherst, Va.) finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:27.51, while sophomore Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) was fourth at 2:40.25.
Carriveau and sophomore Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished second and third, respectively in the 50-yard freestyle. Carriveau touched at 30.63, while Shaw finished with a time of 35.26.
The fifth women's event of the day, saw first-year Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) win the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:32.52. Kear finished fourth at 2:51.12 in the 200-yard individual medley.
The 100-yard butterfly included a two-three finish for Sweet Briar's Williams and Sanford. Williams posted a time of 1:14.87, while Sanford touched at 1:20.23.
Sweet Briar claimed the top-three places in the 100-yard freestyle, led by Williams' 1:07.99 finish atop the standings. Jones touched second at 1:12.41, while Florio was third at 1:16.34.
Murphy earned her second win of the day, by winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.22. Shaw was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.40.
Murphy followed her backstroke performance with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 6:23.70.
Kear finished third in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:36.79, while Jones touched fourth at 7:17.34.
The final individual event of the day, saw Martin finish third with a time of 1:25.61 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Carriveau finished fourth at 1:27.03 and Florio touched sixth at 1:43.99.
The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relay, that saw the Vixens win with a time of 2:07.34. Rucker, Martin, Sanford and Shaw comprised the Vixens' relay.
Sweet Briar will next swim in a neutral site tri-meet hosted by Hampden-Sydney, featuring Southern Virginia and Bridgewater. The Vixens' will head to Hampden-Sydney on Friday with a 4 p.m. scheduled start.
