HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. — The Sweet Briar swim team posted 15 personal-best times on Friday afternoon at Hampden-Sydney, as the Vixens topped Southern Virginia and fell to Bridgewater in a pair of dual meets.
The Vixens defeated Southern Virginia 133-94, while Bridgewater topped Sweet Briar 153-75.
The first points for Sweet Briar came in the 1500-meter freestyle, where junior Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished third with a personal-best time of 22:42.77. First-year Anne Rucker (Midlothian, Va.) posted a personal-best time of 25:28.89 to finish fifth.
The 200-meter freestyle saw first-year Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) finish third with a personal-best time of 2:33.07 and sophomore Lizzie Martin (Dothan, Ala.) touch the wall sixth at 2:55.99.
Martin finished second in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:36.90, followed by sophomore Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) in fourth at 2:03.47.
The 100-meter breaststroke saw the Vixens touch third and fourth, with first-year Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) touching the wall with a personal-best time of 1:44.02. Junior Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) was fourth at 2:05.46.
Kear finished second in the 200-meter butterfly at 3:26.90, while first-year Leilani Williams (Amherst, Va.) was third with a personal-best of 3:27.91.
The 50-meter freestyle concluded with sophomore Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) and Shaw finishing fourth and fifth. Jones finished with a personal-best of 36.49, while Shaw recorded a personal-best time of 40.55.
Rucker touched second in the 100-meter freestyle with a personal-best time of 1:17.10 and Jones was fourth at 1:22.67.
The 200-meter backstroke saw Florio finish fifth with a personal-best of 3:25.18 before Martin and Sanford finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 200-meter breaststroke. Martin tallied a personal-best time of 3:33.79, while Sanford finished with a personal-best of 3:53.03.
Murphy finished third in the 400-meter freestyle at 5:31.21, while Rucker was fifth with a personal-best time of 6:32.75.
The 100-meter butterfly featured a second-place finish by Murphy, with a personal-best time of 1:17.50, while Sanford was fifth with a personal-best time of 1:34.12.
Williams was third in the 200-meter individual medley, posting a personal-best time of 3:15.05.
Sweet Briar's day finished with the Vixens "A" relay of Sanford, Kear, Williams and Murphy finishing second in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:12.31. Florio, Jones, Martin and Rucker were fourth at 2:32.74.
Sweet Briar is back in action on Saturday, October 26, when the Vixens host Hollins and Roanoke at the Prothro Natatorium.
