Pacers top Vixens; Sweet Briar keepers combine for 16 saves

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Junior Lera Cordner took three shots on Wednesday, while junior Sammy Holton and first-year Maddie Wine combined for 16 saves as the Vixens dropped a 7-0 decision to the visiting William Peace Pacers.
 
The eventual game winning goal for William Peace (3-4-1) came in the seventh minute when Lillian Bates scored her first goal of the day off an assist from Raine Greene.
 
The Pacers would head to halftime with a 5-0 lead over Sweet Briar (0-6-0), led by a hat trick from Greene. Rachel Alford score two second half goals for William Peace to secure the 7-0 win for the visitors.
 
Holton (Arbutus, Md.) made 12 saves on the day, while Wine (Stafford, Va.) tallied four in the second period. Cordner (Macungie, Pa.) took three shots for Sweet Briar, placing one on frame. Senior Victoria Lawson (Shipman, Va.), sophomore Sara Story (Phenix City, Ala.) and Wine all took one shot each during the match.
 
The Vixens open ODAC competition on Saturday with a 5 p.m. scheduled kickoff at Guilford.
