EMORY, Va. — Sweet Briar first-year Peyton Murphy won the 50-meter freestyle on Saturday at Emory & Henry, while the Wasps earned a 124-51 win over the Vixens at the Emory & Henry Aquatics Center.
Following an exhibition relay by junior Dharma Kear (Virginia Beach, Va.), sophomore Lizzie Martin (Dothan, Ala.) and first-years Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) and Leilani Williams (Amherst, Va.) in the 200-meter medley relay, which finished with a time of 2:33.49, the Vixens posted a pair of top-five finishes in the 200-meter freestyle.
The 200-meter freestyle saw first-year Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.) finish fourth with a time of 2:46.04, while sophomore Lauren Jones (Danville, Va.) was fifth at 2:57.55. First-year Maggie Saunders (Troy, Va.) was sixth and sophomore Taylor Shaw (Virginia Beach, Va.) was seventh with times of 2:58.37 and 3:33.46, respectively.
Murphy won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 31.23, while Williams finished fourth at 32.72. Kear and junior Nora Florio (Lynchburg, Va.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Kear touched the wall at 34.53 and Florio finished at 36.11.
Kear competed in the 200-meter individual medley, finishing third with a time of 3:09.34 and Williams finished fourth in the 100-meter butterfly at 1:23.92.
The 100-meter freestyle saw Murphy and Jones finished second and third, respectively, while Florio was fifth and Shaw was sixth. Murphy touched at 1:09.07, while Jones finished at 1:22.86, Florio at 1:25.68 and Shaw at 1:39.05.
Jones recorded another third-place finish as she touched with a time of 1:31.98 in the 100-meter backstroke. Martin finished fourth at 1:33.03 and Saunders was fifth at 1:34.17.
The 400-meter freestyle saw Williams in second at 5:50.41, while Kear was third at 5:59.48 and Sanford was fourth at 6:05.81.
The final individual event of the day finished with Murphy in third with a 100-meter breaststroke time of 1:32.04. Martin finished fifth at 1:37.39 and Florio was sixth at 2:01.79.
Sweet Briar wrapped up the day with a second-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 5:38.15. The Vixens' relay was comprised of Saunders, Martin, Sanford and Shaw.
With the regular season completed, the Vixens now head to Greensboro, N.C. for the ODAC Championships starting on February 6.
