Soccer Falls to Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sweet Briar soccer (2-10-0) fell to ODAC opponent Guilford (11-5-1, 5-4-1) in North Carolina today, 8-0.
 
With the Vixens playing down by two, the Quakers got out to an early lead, going up 1-0 eight minutes into the match. Two more goals from the home team in the next ten minutes would increase their lead to three.
 
As time wound down in the first half, Guilford would tack on two more goals to its lead bringing the match to a score of 5-0 at the half.
 
The playing field leveled out in the second half of with both teams playing 9v9. The 6-0 goal from the Quakers three minutes in would be followed up by scoring chances for first-year Kaitlynn Rupert (Woodbridge, Va.). However, Guilford would respond with action at the other end of the field, finding the back of the net two more times to bring the match to 8-0.
 
First-years Kaitlyn Burns (Moneta, Va.) and Emma Wilk (Roxbury, N.J.) would also get scoring opportunities of their own, but the game would draw to an 8-0 close without a change in the score.
 
Highlights
  • Junior goalkeeper Katelyn Meyer (Smithsburg, Md.) registered 14 saves, bringing her save total on the season to 148.
  • Rupert leads the team in shots on goal with 13.
What's Next
Today's match marks the end of currently scheduled contests for the Vixens with the possibility of an ODAC match against Hollins being rescheduled in November.
