Soccer Falls to Salem

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar soccer (1-1-0, 0-0 ODAC) came up short against the Salem Spirits (4-2-0, 0-0 USA South) falling by a score of 2-0.
 
It was a tough-fought 90 minutes between Sweet Briar and Salem which saw the game go scoreless through the first 60 minutes of play.
 
Around 20 minutes into the second half, the Spirits got themselves onto the scoresheet after an ensuing corner kick. Despite multiple scoring opportunities for the Vixens, Salem was able to hold onto its 1-0 lead, sealing the deal with the 2-0 goal being scored with one second remaining in the game.
 
Junior goalkeeper Katelyn Meyer (Smithsburg, Md.) registered nine saves in the game, bolstering Sweet Briar's defense and keeping them in the game through all 90 minutes.
