RUSTBURG, Va. – The No. 2 Sweet Briar NCEA team (0-1, 0-1 ECAC) fell to the No. 1 Lynchburg Hornets (2-0, 2-0 ECAC) in the season opener today by a score of 6-4.
The Vixens led 3-2 after the flat competition thanks to points scored by senior
Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.), junior
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) and sophomore
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.).
Freeburg earned an 83 on Ruffino to top the Hornets' score of 70, while Longest took down Emma Schweizer with a 76. Atherton and horse Caleb teamed up to secure a 77, beating her Lynchburg opponent's score by two points.
However, Sweet Briar came up short in the fences portion of the meet after securing only one point.
Sophomore
Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.) was the lone point-getter, topping her competition by 11 points with a score of 81 on FeeFee.
Highlights
- Freeburg was named MOP in flat and also earned the highest victory over her opponent on the day with 13 point victory over Lynchburg's Lucy Metzler.
- Making their NCEA debut today were first-years Naomi Dachis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Wyette Felton (Canton, Ga.).
- Sophomore Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.) earned an 84 in her flat exhibition ride.
