Swimming Comes Up Short Against Southern Virginia

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Sweet Briar swim team (2-2, 2-0 ODAC) came up short against the Southern Virginia Knights (2-1) tonight, falling by a score of 115-53.
 
The Vixens started the meet off with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Graduate student Caroline Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.), sophomores Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) and Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) and first-year Dana Kriesien (Sun Valley, Idaho) combined for a total time of 2:12.21.
 
Junior Kass Carpenter nabbed a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle after recording a time of 12:27.32.
 
Her performance was followed up by a third-place finish from sophomore Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala); who registered a time of 2:27.82 in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
Sweet Briar finished third, fourth and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle as sophomore Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.), C. Lewis and senior Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) recorded times of 27.53, 27.64 and 27.89, respectively.
 
J. Lewis led the Vixens in the 200-yard IM, finishing third after earning a time of 2.44.74. She was followed by Aparicio and ElzHowe with times of 2:56.71 and 3:02.15, respectively.
 
Murphy earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly after completing the race in 2:40.06. Warner also earned a second-place finish, in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 1:02.73.
 
In the 200-yard backstroke, Carpenter and ElzHowe finished second and third with times of 2:34.86 and 3:12.59, respectively.
 
Aparicio earned her best finish of the night, second in the 500-yard freestyle, after finishing the event in 6:28.91.
 
In the last individual race of the meet, the 200-yard breaststroke, J. Lewis recorded a time of 2:55.35 to finish second.
 
Sweet Briar closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as C. Lewis, Murphy, Carpenter and Warner clocked in a time of 4:08.84
 
Highlights
  • C. Lewis swam the fastest opening leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 28.61.
  • Kriesien finished third in the 100-yard freestyle after recording a time of 1:10.91. 
What's Next
The Vixens will return home tomorrow, Nov. 6, to take on Ferrum and Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
