NCEA Holds SUNY New Paltz Scoreless in Flat Competition for 5-3 Victory

SWEET BRIAR, Va. The Sweet Briar NCEA team (6-2) once again swept the flat event to earn a 5-3 victory over SUNY New Paltz (2-5) today.
 
Sophomore Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) was named Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) after earning a 78 on Dorado over fences.
 
The sweep in flat competition was led by MOP junior Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.), the reigning two-time Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Flat Rider of the Week, who scored a 90.5 on Jackson. Freeburg's score was 26.5 points higher than her SUNY New Paltz opponent.
 
Longest earned her second point of the day on Mulligan, besting Brynley Smith's score of 69 6.5 points. First-year Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) and senior Britt Larson-Jackson (Washington, D.C.) earned their victories by double digits, with Atherton scoring a 79.5 on Emmet and Jackson scoring an 87 on Otis. Their opponents, Alanna Ryan and Seraphina Morreale scored a 65.5 and a 60.5, respectively.
