FARMVILLE, Va. – The Sweet Briar swim team (5-5, 5-3 ODAC) has split tonight's double dual with the Bridgewater Eagles (6-2, 4-2 ODAC) and Hollins University at Hampden-Sydney College. The Vixens fell to the Eagles, 158-86, but took down Hollins by a score of 167-20.
The relay team of junior
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) and sophomores
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.),
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) and
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) kicked the meet off with a second-place finish in the 400-meter medley relay.
Senior
Peyton Murphy (Norfolk, Va.) helped Sweet Briar begin individual races on a high note; coming in first in the 400-meter IM with a time of 5:49.14.
In the 200-meter freestyle, Vixen swimmers came in third and fourth place as sophomore
Madlen Kolar (Wiesbaden, Germany) and Carpenter recorded times of 2:29.22 and 2:29.91, respectively.
Graduate student
Caroline Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) nabbed fourth in her first race of the night. She clocked in a time of 1:16.33 in the 100-meter backstroke.
J. Lewis earned second place again, this time as an individual, in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:26.17. She was followed by Aparicio and first-year
Caroline Lilly (Camden, N.C.) who had times of 1:38.78 and 1:39.43, respectively.
The Vixens' second victory of the night came thanks to ElzHowe who completed the 200-meter butterfly in 2:37.15 to beat out her Bridgewater competitors.
Kolar, who now has two first-place finishes in two total career meets, sat atop the podium in the 50-meter freestyle. The German recorded a time of 29.77 to top the rest of the field. Aparicio placed fifth in the race followed by Lilly.
C. Lewis saw a time of 1:03.82 in the 100-meter freestyle while Carpenter placed third in the 200-meter backstroke followed by ElzHowe in fourth with times of 2:44.51 and 2:51.26, respectively.
J. Lewis increased Sweet Briar's victories to three with a time of 3:05.76 in the 200-meter backstroke. Lilly finished fourth with a time of 3:34.46.
In the 400-meter freestyle, Carpenter came second, Murphy fourth and Aparicio fifth with times of 5:20.48, 5:35.40 and 5:48.74, respectively.
In the penultimate race of the night, the 100-meter butterfly, Kolar claimed second as the lone Vixen swimmer in the race with a time of 1:15.94.
C. Lewis finished the 200-meter IM at the 2:51.00 mark, while J. Lewis recorded a time of 2:55.20 to finish second and third and close out the individual races.
The night finished with a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Murphy, ElzHowe, C. Lewis and Kolar combined for a time of 2:00.01.
