SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The No. 2 single discipline Sweet Briar NCEA team (4-2, 4-1 ECAC) took down No. 1 Lynchburg (4-3, 3-1 ECAC) today at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center, 6-4, thanks to a stunning comeback during the flat portion of the meet.
The Hornets took the early 3-2 lead during the fences portion of the meet. First-years
Wyette Felton (Canton, Ga.) and
Naomi Dachis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) earned the two points for the Vixens with a 70 with Phantom and an 85 with Chico, respectively.
Junior
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) and sophomores
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) and
Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.) also performed well in fences competition with Longest totaling an 86 with Jetson, Atherton totaling an 83 with Kobe and Mesiarik totaling an 81 on her re-ride with Jules.
Sweet Briar tied the meet up early on during flat competition thanks to junior
Kacie Freeburg's (Orlando, Fla.) score of 87. Atherton's score of 87 with Jakson earned her the title of Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) and helped propel the Vixens into the 4-3 lead with three more riders remaining.
With Longest overtaking her Hornets competitor by four points with her score of 79, the team's lead grew to 5-3. Sophomore
Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.) solidified the comeback victory for Sweet Briar with a 76 in partnership with Hemingway.

- Dachis' score of 85 marks a new career-high.
