RUSTBURG, Va. – The No. 2-seed Sweet Briar College NCEA team (8-2, 7-1 ECAC) is headed back to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Single Discipline Championships after taking down the No. 3-seed Bridgewater College Eagles 9-1 today at the Lynchburg Equestrian Center.
The Vixens began the meet by winning all five points in fence competition. Junior
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) kicked off the competition with a 166 on Phantom, beating Ellie Weinreb of Bridgewater by 16 points.
First-year
Wyette Felton (Canton, Ga.) took down her Eagles competitor with a 155 on Coolie while fellow first-year
Naomi Dachis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) earned a six-point victory after scoring a 167 on Chakira.
Sophomore
Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.) earned Sweet Briar's fourth point of the meet with a 153 on Max.
Sophomore
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) wrapped up the fences portion of the meet with a 169 on Ruffino. Atherton's score was 14 points higher than Delaney Broderick of Bridgewater and earned the title of Most Outstanding Performer (MOP).
Both Atherton and Felton earned points for the Vixens in flat competition as well with Atherton earning her second MOP honors of the day with a 179 on Diego and Felton totaling a 148 on Feefee.
Senior
Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.) earned 12 more points than her Eagles competitor with a 173 on Buddy. Sophomore
Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.) helped Sweet Briar reach its nine point total with a 173 on Caleb, earning 23 more points than Caroline Warren of Bridgewater.
Highlights
- The team improved upon its performance from earlier in the season when they took down the Eagles 6-4.
- Today marked the second time this season that Atherton has earned two MOP titles, the first occurring against Dartmouth on Feb. 24.

Sweet Briar will compete for the ECAC Single Discipline title tomorrow against the No. 1-seed Lynchburg at 10 a.m.
