SEWANEE, Tenn. - The No. 1 single-discipline Sweet Briar College NCEA team (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) opened the season with a 6-3 win over the University of the South Tigers (0-2) yesterday.
In fences competition, both seniors
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) and
Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.) earned points for the Vixens.
Atherton earned a score of 85 on Ben to defeat Jenna McAmis by 10 points while Mesiarik totaled an 84 on James for a 29-point victory over Irene Boehm.
Sweet Briar was perfect on the flat, earning all four points available. Atherton and Mesiarik again earned points for the team thanks to their scores of 83 and 75, respectively.
Fellow senior
Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.) captured an 18-point win against Campbell Flanagan with a 79 on Ben and junior
Maggie Booth (Marietta, Ga.) took down Clara Juckett by nine points with a 67 on Leo to help the team earn its 6-3 victory.
Highlights
- Atherton was named Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) in both flat and fences.
- First-year Abigail Schreiner (Villa Rica, Ga.) contested in her first National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCA) meet of the season.
