Soccer Overcome by Hollins on the Road

ROANOKE, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-5-0, 0-3-0 ODAC) were overcome by Hollins University (3-5-0, 1-2-0) on the road this evening, falling by a score of 3-1.

Despite shots being fairly even by both teams in the first half of the game, the score was deadlocked at zero entering half time.

Hollins broke through 15 minutes into second half action to take the 1-0 lead.

However, Sweet Briar would answer back only three minutes later as senior Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.) converted on a free kick to tie things up at one.

The home team found the back of the net just five minutes later and a second goal at the 88:38 mark gave them the 3-1 victory as the game drew to a close.

In goal, senior Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) registered nine saves.

Highlights
  • Lewis now has four goals this season, the highest single-season total of her career.
  • Sophomore Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.) led the team with eight shots.
