HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – The Sweet Briar College swim team (0-2, 0-1 ODAC) got its first taste of head-to-head action today as the Vixens took on Hollins University (0-2) and the Southern Virginia University Knights (2-0) this evening.
Sweet Briar fell to both Hollins and Southern Virginia by scores of 105-21 and 126-14, respectively.
In the 200-meter freestyle, junior
EJ Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) represented Sweet Briar and placed eighth with a time of 2:58.23. For the 200-meter individual medley, sophomore
Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) finished fifth in 3:13.85.
The 100-meter butterfly saw sophomore
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) compete for Sweet Briar, finishing sixth with a time of 2:12.14. In the Women's 100-meter backstroke, sophomore
Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) placed sixth, swimming a 1:33.62, while first-year
Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas) was seventh in 2:02.67. During the 50-meter freestyle, Sweet Briar athletes Boyce and first-year
Gracie Sheridan (Waynesboro, Va.) recorded ninth and tenth-place finishes, respectively, with times of 47.37 and 48.18.
Sweet Briar's 200-meter freestyle relay team, composed of Scherrer, Seitz, Carter and junior
Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.), completed the event in fifth place with a time of 2:30.76, and their splits were 35.61 for Scherrer, 34.59 for Seitz, 38.25 for Carter and 42.31 for Elliott.
Highlights
- Seitz set a new personal best time in the 200-meter IM.
- Boyce contested the 100-meter butterfly for the first time in her collegiate career while Carter contested her first 100-meter backstroke.
