Swimming Opens Up Action at Home Against William Peace

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College swim team (0-3, 0-1 ODAC) opened up action at home for the 2025-26 season this evening in a 67-79 loss to the William Peace University Pacers (1-1).
 
In the opening 200-meter medley relay, the quartet of first-year Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas), junior EJ Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) and sophomore Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) and Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) finished with a time of 3:17.26, setting the pace for the team early in the session. Throughout the individual events, sophomore Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) captured victories in both distance freestyle races, taking first in the 800-meter freestyle with a 12:53.79 and repeating her success in the 400 with a 6:31.99, demonstrating impressive endurance and consistency.
 
Scherrer led for Sweet Briar in the 200-meter freestyle, notching first place with 2:58.79, and later returned to place second in the competitive 100-meter breaststroke in 1:48.49. Junior Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) contributed her speed in the sprints, claiming fourth in the 50-meter freestyle (42.60) and earning second in the 100-meter freestyle at 1:37.78, while Powers and fellow first-year Gracie Sheridan (Waynesboro, Va.) rounded out SBC's scoring with fifth and sixth places, respectively, in the 50 free. The 100-meter backstroke saw Carter out-touching Powers for second in 1:38.43, with Powers finishing third at 2:04.34.
 
Boyce made her mark in the 100-meter butterfly with a second-place finish in 2:16.86, and she also swam the 100-meter breaststroke for third place (2:42.39), adding essential points for Sweet Briar. In the closing relay, the Sweet Briar team of Sheridan, Seitz, Carter and Elliott came together to win the 200-meter freestyle relay, posting a time of 2:45.23 and sealing a successful night for the squad.

  • Sweet Briar shaved the points gap against William Peace by 19 points compared to the two programs' last meeting in January.
