SALEM, Va. – The Sweet Briar swim team (0-4, 0-2 ODAC) drops meet against the Roanoke Maroons (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) this evening by a score of 37-106.
The team opened with the 200-yard medley relay, where first-year
Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas) led off for Sweet Briar, followed by sophomore
Carlee Minyard (Jacksonville, Fla.), sophomore
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas), and junior
Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.). The relay squad finished with a time of 3:17.84, laying the groundwork for the rest of the meet.
In the distance events, sophomore
Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) delivered for Sweet Briar in the 1000-yard freestyle, earning a time of 14:27.65. Later, she tackled the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 7:03.73, demonstrating her stamina and competitiveness.
The 200-yard freestyle saw junior
EJ Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) secure second place for Sweet Briar, coming in at 2:43.54. In the 100-yard backstroke, Powers took the victory with a time of 52.43.
The sprint freestyle events featured multiple Sweet Briar swimmers building depth in the lineup. Elliott finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 37.62, while Boyce and Minyard finished fourth and fifth, respectively. In the 100-yard freestyle, Scherrer notched third place with a time of 1:11.39. Sophomore
Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) was fifth, and Powers rounded out the heat for the Vixens in sixth.
Boyce represented Sweet Briar in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in second with a time of 1:56.90. For the final relay, the Sweet Briar squad of Seitz, Scherrer, Carter, and Elliott competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 5:11.35, capping off a meet full of efforts from every swimmer
