RUSTBURG, Va. – The No. 1 seed Sweet Briar College NCEA team (5-2, 3-1 ODAC) fell to the No. 2 seed University of Lynchburg Hornets (8-3, 2-1 ODAC) today in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Single Discipline Championship meet on raw score, 674 – 77.5 after a 5-5 tie on points.
The Vixens pulled ahead of the Hornets early on in the meet with three points score in fences competition.
Senior
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) and juniors
Maggie Booth (Marietta, Ga.) and
Naomi Dachis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) were the point scorers for Sweet Briar over fences.
Atherton averaged an 81.5 on Concept to best Maddy Rubin while Dachis also totaled an 81.5 on Cooley to a 6.5 margin of victory over Fallyn Belcastro.
Booth scored the highest out of any Vixen rider with an 83.5 on Leo to take the point from Emma Schweizer.
On the flat, junior
Wyette Felton (Canton, Ga.) and senior
Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.) were point scoreres for Sweet Briar with a 76.5 on Archie and a 72.5 on Forever.
With Lynchburg picking up three points on the flat, the two teams were tied at five following the conclusion of action with the Hornets getting the victory on raw scores.
Felton was named to the All-Tournament Team on the flat while Atherton and Booth both earned All-Tournament honors over fences.
Highlights
- Booth was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) over fences.
- This marks the second-straight All-Tournament Team honors for Atherton after she was named to the team on the flat last season.
