LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College swim team (0-8, 0-6 ODAC) competed in its first meet of 2026 this afternoon, facing off against the Randolph College WildCats (8-1, 4-0 ODAC) and the Greensboro College Pride.
Sophomore
Geneva Seitz (Havre de Grace, Md.) and junior
EJ Scherrer (Simpsonville, S.C.) got the meet underway for the Vixens in the 200-yard freestyle. Seitz placed fourth with a time of 2:39.19 while Scherrer finished right behind her in fifth with a time of 2:40.97
In the 50-yard backstroke, sophomore
Emily Carter (Kermit, W. Va.) led the way for Sweet Briar in third thanks to her time of 39.98. Fourth place went to first-year
Ava Powers (Crandall, Texas) and junior
Julia Elliott (Norfolk, Va.) came in fifth with times of 47.12 and 48.76, respectively.
Scherrer was the lone Vixen competitor in the 50-yard breaststroke and completed the race in 44.65 to place second.
Sophomore
Karissa Boyce (Red Rock, Texas) represented Sweet Briar in the 100-yard butterfly and saw a third-place finish thanks to a personal-best time of 1:56.42.
First-year
Kylee Nickerson (Waterford, Mich.) was the first Vixen to touch the wall in the 50-yard freestyle at the 36.80 mark in fifth. Elliott followed Nickerson in sixth (39.20), Powers in seventh (40.78) and fellow first-year
Katie Kreska (West Lawn, Pa.) in eighth (41.23).
Elliott also saw action in the 100-yard freestyle along with sophomore
Carlee Minyard (Jacksonville, Fla.). Elliott recorded a time of 1:29.75 and Minyard touched the wall in 1:36.29.
Carter saw a top-three finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:27.08 while Scherrer, Minyard and Boyce all contested the 100-yard breaststroke and finished third through fifth.
Boyce was Sweet Briar's lone entry in the 50-yard butterfly and earned a time of 53.41 and Seitz closed out individual races with her fifth-place finish in the 100-yard IM.
Sweet Briar's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Nickerson, Minyard, Powers and Seitz finished third with a combined time of 2:33.37 to conclude Saturday action.
Highlights
- Powers set a new personal best time in the 50-yard backstroke.
- Nickerson bested her time in the 50-yard freestyle while Kreska participated in the event for the first time in her collegiate career.
