SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (0-2-3, 0-0-0 ODAC) continued to create chances throughout Sunday's contest at Meyer Field, using a determined second-half response to secure a 1–1 draw with the Agnes Scott College Scotties (0-4-1, 0-0-0 CCS).
Agnes Scott opened the scoring in the fourth minute, when a chance was finished at 3:36, giving the visitors an early 1–0 lead.
The Vixens answered with sustained pressure for the rest of the opening half. Sophomore
Elena Fomin (Middlesex County, Va.) fired Sweet Briar's first attempt in the opening minute. At the same time, Senior
Alexis Diaz (Connolly Springs, N.C.) had several early looks as the Vixens pushed to find an equalizer. Junior
Yadira Castrejon (Connelly Springs, N.C.) placed a shot on frame in the 13th minute, and Diaz forced a save from the Agnes Scott goalkeeper in the 20th minute.
Sweet Briar kept building opportunities as the half progressed. Sophomore
Abby Broom (Sylva, N.C.), senior
Elise Bennett (Louisa, Va.), and first-years
Addison Benge (Powhatan, Va.) and
Madison Cole (Lynchburg, Va.) each registered shots on target before the break, but the Scotties goalkeeper's eight first-half saves allowed Agnes Scott to carry its one-goal advantage into halftime.
The Vixens needed just 36 seconds of the second half to break through. Diaz set up junior
Electra McPherson (Madison Heights, Va.) for the equalizer at 45:36, as McPherson finished to tie the match at 1–1.
Sweet Briar remained on the front foot after leveling the score. Cole tested the Agnes Scott keeper in the 47th minute, Castrejon put another effort on target in the 61st minute, and McPherson generated two more shots on goal in the 72nd minute. The Vixens continued to press late, with Bennett forcing a save in the 79th minute and Diaz recording Sweet Briar's final shot on target in the 87th minute.
